History History

The Hinchinbrook Art Awards Competition is an annual event presented by the Hinchinbrook Shire Council (previously Acquisitive Art Competition).

The competition was first held in 1977 when the State Government asked all local authorities in Queensland to donate a work of art to the new Parliament House in Brisbane.  Hinchinbrook Shire Council decided to hold a competition to acquire a painting for Parliament House and hence the annual art competition was born.

This region is home to many very talented artists and the Hinchinbrook Shire Council is committed to promoting their work. National and international artists are encouraged to submit their works.
