Pam Finlay, inspired by a journey to France in 2012 along with the novel “The Secret Garden”, exhibits paintings that will take you on a journey through a hidden world where dreams bloom and miracles grow.
Beyond the gate is a hidden world that is only revealed when you turn the key. You are there and the garden is suddenly there too. You are free to explore the blooms of your dreams and discover the mysteries within, a sanctuary where miracles grow.
These paintings are inspired from a journey to France in 2012 where I visited the garden of my favourite artist, Claude Monet. His amazing waterlily paintings came to life there. I was also inspired by a novel I read a long time ago and more recently the movie called “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The message of the movie was that even things that appear lifeless can be brought back to prosperity through care. The garden becomes a place of rejuvenation and healing. These themes spoke deeply to me and inspired me to create artworks that evoke the same.
Everything can be nurtured and brought to maturity through tender, loving care. With the rising of the sun the flowers open and reveal their beauty, blooming where they are planted.
In this exhibition I aim to explore the above in a contemporary context, capturing the essence of walking through a garden with the viewer and assisting them in enjoying the journey.
